Is this one step to far?

a 72 year old goes into supermarket with grey hair and a stick and assistant refuses to serve him with wine unless he can prove he is over 21should the assistant in the shop be sacked for being stupid

Is this one step to far?

no but the stores are the ones telling the cashiers to card everyone! they shuold be a lil more specific, card anyone that looks under the age of 35 then you dont have some grey haired senor about to hit you with his cane

Is this one step to far?

what.. haha.. oh my god how funny..

i dont think the assistant should get fierd but he does need some sense... taking his job soo seriously

Is this one step to far?

yes in a heartbeat!

Is this one step to far?

Yes, it's much a step too far toward impolite and reckless behavior.

Is this one step to far?

No not sacked, for that level of stupidity she should be shot. What a moron.

Is this one step to far?

Some people just don't have any commonsense. I think the assistant deserves a second chance after being spoken about the incident.

Is this one step to far?

The shop assistant isn't sacked already? Who's the manager mad enough to hire them?

Is this one step to far?

I know the stores here in Fl, have a policy to card everyone now. It is all about the doing everything to protect against possible law suits. At Winn Dixie, they have to call a manager to check the ID.

It is a world of frivolous law suits and they are doing what management dictates they have to.

You would be better to e-mail or call corporate head quarters of these companies, you get a better result.

Is this one step to far?

Well it could be a costume....you never know lol

Is this one step to far?

No I think they were probably having a laugh and made the old mans day.

Is this one step to far?

Have you not seen j a c k a s s ?

They get on all the prosthetics and go and mess with a cashier by stealing the garden gnome on the step outside the store...

For all they know, it could be a 15 year old in prosthetics haha. I do think, to some extent, it is absolutely pure ignorance, others humor, and others just don't want to get in trouble for not carding the person.

I think it varies in each case...it's a compliment to get carded though.

Is this one step to far?

Without a doubt!

Is this one step to far?

no, it's the law

sorry but true

Is this one step to far?

no, he should be arrested for being stupid, and should not be aloud to procreate. idiot

Is this one step to far?

The assistant definately needs to lighten up. You should definately complain. They need talked to, but not to the extreme of being fired.

Is this one step to far?

yea

Unfortunately, believe it or not, the state of Tennessee just recently passed a law to where employees of such stores MUST ask for an ID for alcohol purchases. Other states have this law as well and, to be honest, I think it's pretty ridiculous. The clerk was probably asking because it's against the law to not ask.

This reminded me of a time when my boyfriend and I had some friends (another couple and a guy friend) over at our apartment and the guys nominated us girls to go out and get 2 cases of beer for them. Since a case is pretty heavy, I asked my friend to help me carry one while we were in the store. When we got to the counter, the clerk asked to see two IDs (we live in Georgia, btw). I thought she assumed I was buying one case and my friend was buying the other so I said with a big smile "Oh, no, I'm buying both of them" while handing her my ID and my debit card. The clerk said "Yes, but I still need to see both IDs". Still thinking she was confused I said "No, no, I'm buying both of the cases. She was just helping me bring one of them up here because those things are pretty heavy!" (still smiling). The clerk rolled her eyes and said "NO, since SHE helped I have to see HER ID too". It finally clicked with me that my friend would have to be 21 just to have helped my carry the beer to the counter! However, my friend didn't have her ID on her since we thought it'd be a simple trip to the store. When I told the clerk she didn't have an ID but really was 21, she took the beer, put it behind the counter and said "Sorry". I said, "Well, I'll just buy that one case that I brought". The clerk said, "You can't do that till I see her ID". I said "Fine, you apparently don't want mine or anyone else I know's business" and walked out. I haven't been back to that store since.

There are an awful lot of businesses that require ID now, even though I don't personally agree with that, it's their rule. I don't feel like the assistant should be dismissed at all, providing he/she wasn't doing it for harassment/joke and was merely protecting his/her job.

I do however think the patron would have been embarassed and shouldn't be put through that at 72 years old. They have earned the right to do what ever they want at that age, as many people of that era fought for us to be in the society that we are in now, and deserve respect.

Is this one step to far?

I think Company policy should be modified or properly explained, I think that there is a story behind this story. I am often asked if I'm over 21 by check out girls with a twinkle in their eye. I will only admit to being 21 and a bit and blooming big bit at that

Is this one step to far?

no he shouldn't be sacked, but pulled to one side and say dont be so stupid if it is obvious that the person is over 21 serve them. Saying that a few years ago my girlfriend and I went out with her parents for her birthday and went to go to a bar and her dad got asked for ID!! (He was in late 40's bold and with a beard!)

Is this one step to far?

Some establishments require proof of age no matter what. And many even have signs posted that say they will ask for ID even if you are obviously over 21. The clerk may have just been following company policy.

Is this one step to far?

lol the shop assistant should be given a pay rise for having a sense of humour!
