Why do so many really old people seem to be so bitter and nasty especially toward younger middle age

I was driving thourgh our S. Florida community for people over 55 (I am younger than that however) and coasted through one of our little stop signs at about 1 mile an hour and this terrible old bat stops and rolls down her winddow and is yelling and acting nasty like she feels entitled to give me hell and read me the riot act. She was coming towards me and we passed each other and I just ignored her and kept going. There were no cars around and it is not even a real street--just a little driveway through our community and no one was around at all to be endangered by me not coming to a full stop but she felt justified to stop her car, roll her window down and start acting like I had done the most horrible thing in the world and it was her right to unlease an ugly nasy terrible stream of hate towards me.

Why are these old people (over 80 mostly) so ugly inside and so hateful? If I had grey hair and a shriveld face like her she would not have done it. What is wrong with them.

For every young person like you, who isn't causing trouble, these people probably deal with two or three that are causing trouble. Teenagers do some really dumb things sometimes, and some of that includes property damage or doing mean things to older people. Not all teenagers, but enough to tick people off. You can wish they'd be a little more selective in their anger, but they probably take a lot of crap. That, or she just had some bug up her butt.

Also...don't run stop signs. That excuse won't work if a cop sees you do it.

I don't really understand why you wouldn't act a certain way because of your appearance, or why you seem to be preoccupied with this old lady's face and hair.

They (and she) probably feel that a lot of younger people don't show any respect anymore.

I think because people these days, especially the younger ones do not respect people or the rules nearly enough. I think the older you get the more you see right is right and wrong is wrong, with very little gray area. Whether you endangered anyone or not, if she perceived you weren't following the rules it's understandable that she get upset. Rules are for everyone even the terminally unique.

Now .. let me get this straight. You went through the stop sign ... very slowly. And some old person had the nerve to sugggest you'd violated the law? My goodness, what's got into these geezers? My uncle, who retired as cop in Philly, used to write you guys tickets .... very slowly.

Actually as you get older you get weaker, and death seems close, diseases come over you so your life starts to become bitter. That's why the old people have less consideration for people they do not know, as in there vision they are the ones who are in the ultimate pain and suffering

A lot things contribute to it. Could be health problems, some of them just have an attitude that they are SENIOR CITIZENS and they have the right to everything and that they should always come first. Many people who have customer service experience KNOW what I mean.

Another thing is the labeling thing, I hear some of the older folks complaining about the "younger" generations and how we are so arrogant and so on and so on.

It's hard to understand many things sometimes, isn't it?;)

They know their days are shorter on earth. their just sad and thats the only way a lot of elderly people can deal with it. I feel sad for them. If were lucky enough to live to their age we will know where they are coming from.
