Can i colour it lighter?

i have naturally dark hair and i colour it darker to cover grey hair. i last coloured it permentant dark brown in september and its lightened up abit in the sun.

i reallt want to go lighter to dark blonde/ash/sand abit like fergie but just an all over colour.

will this damage my hair too much? is it possible? and if it is what preocess will the hairdresser have to go through so tht my hair doesnt turn out orange as i have alot of red in my hair tht shows up in the sun.

my hair is in ok condition, its still shiny and smooth just the ends are abit dead.

Alot of hair color does fade fast !your haid dresser will have to do a 2step processing wich is remove t he old color and re tint with the color of your choice, Try not to use ash .ash colors have green base wich in most cases will turn your hair greyish green..you don't want that...if you think it will be to much of a change to go that all over you should try getting sliced or weaved carmel highlites(basically its the sandy color your looking for) hope this helped you out

any colour damages your hair, its just chemicals that change it, to make it lighter you bleach it with proxide, if your old enuf to get grays then your hair might be too old and it may, or may not, break\fall out. if you go to good hairSTYLIST or a barber or a very good\experienced hair dresser then they can make a better estimate of telling you what will happen

It will need pre bleeching 1st if its really dark, then the actual colour you want added. But be carefull because it can damage your hair. if youre hair is already coloured why not try a wash in washout hair dye becaused the permanent colour youve already got on will make the washin dye more permanent, so therefore it will be more safe. good luck.

honestly, you are probably best to get some foils put in; because your hair is quite dark you will have to get it re-dun every 3 weeks because of the re-growth... it actually will suit your skin tone better if you have streaks of your natural colour shining through? the only thing the hairdresser could use to lighten it would be bleach because you already die it and nothing else could lighten it even a couple of shades lighter.

once using bleach, they will prob have to put a toner through to get a better blonde colouor; even with all of that it may not go sandy/ash blonde and the process will damage your hair. good luck with it though

Start off with some lighter brown highlights, and as you get used to this, add some blonde highlights. Your hair will then appear a great deal lighter with less damage! xx
