First time Black Bear Hamster owner: Physical characteristics?

I got a Black-bear hammy 1.5 months ago. Bibi is now 4 mo. old. I had teddybear hamsters before, so I know they have long hair. Bibi has somewhat medium hair, between a teddybear's and a golden's. I am curious about Bibi's long grey hair on her little hammy butt, plus she has two long tufts of grey fur sticking out of her back.

Do all black-bear hammies have similar physical characteristics---long hair on butt, tufts of fur sticking out? Or might Bibi be a mixture of Black-bear and Teddy-bear?

Black bears are basically Syrian hamsters. Not all Syrians have fur like what you've mentioned though.

One of my hammy, has the tuft you mentioned. Another one is long/short haired with a 'skirt'... the long hair on butt thing... Both Syrians...

Perhaps you might wanna post Bibi's photo on this forum %26gt; http://www.hamstercare.co.uk/forum

so someone on the site can identify Bibi's species for you?

Plus, you get to mingle around with other hammy owners and learn new things. :)

Make sure that if you use some sort of wood shavings for the bedding you are only using Aspen shavings. Aspen has no essential oil in the wood so their urine will not cause them to have respiratory problems. Cedar and Pine shavings' essential oils become highly toxic when combined with the urine. Your rodent pets end up dying from either respiratory or liver problems.

Good Luck.
