What is the best product to use if you want to color your hair at home instead of paying $60 at the

I have dark brown hair but had it colored for the first time at a salon. It is a shade lighter and I love it. But now my roots (including the grey!!!) are beginning to show but I just want to try doing it myself to save money.

you wont have to bleach it, it should lighten fine with just the color. look for somethine specially designed for lightening dark hair--theres one called "true brunette" by clariol i think. look at the results on different shades of hair and if you can match it as close as possible to the color you have it now. just try to get the roots so you wont have to keep dying your hair all the time, but it wont be that bad if you do....

Shoot I go to Family Dollar %26amp; by my hair color for $3.00 it works just as good. It has easy to follow directions. Your hair color comes out great soft %26amp; shiny. Takes 20 minutes to do. Everything is right in the box.Just pour the color into the applicator bottle mix it up apply to dry hair, wait 20-25 min wash out you are done.

when you go get your color make sure you get it as close to what it is now, unless you want to change it, but i find that clairol makes some really good hair color.. as does Garnier.

what you could do is get a temporary one that will last for a certain amount of washings, and see if you like it, then graduate yourself to the permanent hair colors..

I would never recommend at home hair color, but if you do try it, you could try a semi-permanent color such as the Clairol Natural Instincts line, these colors will blend your gray and are not too harsh on your hair because they are ammonia free. Be very careful with over the counter hair color though, some contain metallic dyes and other ingredients that are horrible for the hair. You may also want to check with your salon and see what the price is for a regrowth touch-up, as this would not be as expensive as the all over color you received before. Good luck!

I would skip on the walgreens brand and go to Sallys if you have one and buy from there. To be honest much cheaper than going to salon, Id say to get color and mix and a hair treatment for after words it only costs about 7-15bucks depending on where you live plus the sallys girl will tell you whats best for your hair because if want to go lighter most people have subtle reds in there hair and they can help you choose what is best for you. I would recommend it. especally if your on the dime. all you have to do is mix the right amout which they will tell you plus they have special products for gray-removel!
