Will putting a semi perm color over hightlights that are red (by mistake) & very light brown tur

My natural hair color is brown, turns light brown with time (sun, swimming etc). But I have a lot of grey hair, so I color the roots every month. Then I cut bangs. When I did this, I realized that the color I have been using was too dark. I went to a salon to lighten on the top, they tried to hightlight and turned it red. I went to another salon to try to just color it med-dark brown- they gave me more hightlights (really light brown/dark blonde) and it is still red at the top. So - now I have dark brown, auburn and dark blonde hair, I just want ONE color but am afraid to color it anymore and don't trust the salons. Can I put in a semi-perm color (washes out after 6-8 washes)? My questions: 1. if so - will it turn green? Is there a way to avoid that? 2. Will a semi-perm color damage my hair further!? It is in pretty good condition considering all the coloring. THANKS!!!!

Without seeing this in person it is tough to see just how "red" the ends are. There are all kinds of salons out there. Were they aware that you had home color on it before they highlighted? If a highlight doesn't lighten enough it can be gently re lightened right then. Using very low developers and patience. If I were you I would go to a color correction specialist and continue on the path of the color you want. No, you are not going to turn green- but it is not the color you are looking for. Why settle? Take a photo. Look at highlight colors together. Don't get hung up on the names of colors- look at tones. To some people a gold tone is brassy. If the hair can take it, this can be resolved by the right person. This person is not you though. I truly believe you are going to be let down by darker brown with no highlights. Eventually you are going to want to change it and THEN you are going to have to contend with it.

You might want to wait for it to grow out because it will damage your hair more if you keep coloring it.

I would just let it grow out and then start over again. so what if you got gray hair. let it grow out then color it one color and that is it.

no it won't turn green. but it won't cover grey either. Semi-permanent colors are just that. To cover grey you have to use permanent and with a developer higher than 20 volume or it won't cover. Don't turn your back on salons. There are great ones out there. If you are going to do it yourself then any ash tone will neutralize red but it may look mukkey. Smei permanent will not damage hair because there's no peroxide in it. I think you should try another salon, ask for a soap cap (shampoo mixed with peroxide and bleach) for a couple minutes to beach out any red, then use a permanent color (covering grey).
