The best way to do it is to change the dye that you are using. If you start to use a semi-permant dye (6 weeks) that is a similar colour to the one you are using now, it will fade gradually. Keep using this until all the permant dye has grown out. Then just let it fade.

I went grey when I was only 20, so I've used them all. Colour strippers are very damaging.

All the best

Simply stop coloring your hair. Any kind of color remover will only strip ALL natural and artifical color from your hair and leave it a nasty orange color.

Just leave it alone, ask a stylist and get it cut regularly.

You are only 45, why go grey??? I am 54, and I am blonde with salt and pepper underneath and I nearly made the same decision, but it made me look ancient. Go blonde, it makes life much more fun, and I was a red head before hand. Do it gradually with hi-lift tint, and when you reach the colour you like, go grey then if you want, but have fun first!!! Stripping your hair of colour will damage it a lot, so please think carefully, as some mistakes are hard to rectify.

45 is a great age, I was auburn then, but as you get older you need to soften your looks, and most of us like to a little less than ancient. Whatever you choose, have fun and good luck.

I agree with Tentative1...I am nearly 48 and if i went my natural colour i would be grey. I thort about having my long hair cut short to let it grow back naturally (gracefully!) but decided not to. I went blonde from brown 8 years ago and have tried going back but I looked awful....old and withdrawn!

If you really want to go salt and pepper...leave your hair to go natural, have it cut short so the natural colour doesnt seem to take so long to grow. The day will come when i will follow my own advise!!!!!!

Good luck
